Why I’m explaining Digital Marketing vs Branding vs SEO Agency Campaigns is because in previous posts, I have stated that branding is better than SEO campaigns.
In this article, I hope to clear up some misconceptions that I may have caused you with that statement.
When referring to these different means of getting a website visibility, I will be referring to online sources only.
What is Digital Marketing
Digital marketing refers to the use of digital platforms, such as:
- search engines,
- social media,
- email, websites, and
- sometimes even mobile apps,
…to promote products or services and engage with potential customers.
It can involve a wide range of techniques, including:
- search engine optimization (SEO),
- content marketing,
- social media marketing,
- email marketing,
- pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and
- mobile marketing
This type of marketing allows businesses to reach their target audience more efficiently and cost-effectively when compared to the more traditional marketing methods, such as:
- Print advertising
- Broadcast advertising
- Direct mail marketing
- Telemarketing
- Events and trade shows
- Public relations
With the ability to track and measure campaign performance, businesses can optimize their marketing strategies and tactics in real-time to achieve better results.
Overall, digital marketing has become a critical component of any modern marketing strategy, enabling businesses of all sizes to connect with their potential customers and drive growth.

What is Branding
Branding is a type of digital marketing in that it involves the promotion of products or services through various online media platforms.
This involves creating and executing a decisive plan in order to reach a specific target audience effectively and efficiently, through the different types of media.
The strategies are intended to include a variety of tactics, such as creating and sharing:
- blog posts,
- news stories,
- videos,
- podcasts,
- slideshows,
- infographics, and
- social media posts, etc.,
…as a means of notifying the target audience, while entertaining them.
This type of marketing typically involves conducting research in order to understand the target audience, and in identifying the most effective media platforms to reach them on.
This can involve using demographic data, consumer behaviour insights, and market trends to create a well laid out media plan that will maximize reach, as well as engagement.
The goal is to create engaging content that is tailored to the specific platform and audience in order to build brand awareness and loyalty, increase website traffic, and more importantly, drive conversions.
Branding is a crucial component of any marketing strategy as it allows businesses to connect with their audience through various channels and platforms.
With the growth of digital media, branding has become even more complex and challenging, requiring businesses to constantly adapt to changing consumer behaviour and media consumption patterns.
What is SEO Agency Campaign
An SEO (Search Engine Optimization) agency campaign is a strategic approach to improving a website’s visibility and ranking on search engine results pages.
It can involve a comprehensive process of optimizing a website’s content, structure, and links to make it more attractive and relevant to search engines like:
- Google,
- Bing, or
- Yahoo
An SEO agency campaign typically starts with an audit of the website to identify opportunities for improvement.
This should include keyword research, on-page optimization, technical optimization, and link building.
The agency should then develop a strategy and plan to implement the necessary changes and improvements to the website, including optimizing content, restructuring site architecture, and building backlinks from high-quality websites.
The goal of a credible SEO agency campaign is to improve the website’s search engine ranking and drive more traffic to the site.
In turn, this hopefully will lead to increased visibility, brand awareness, and revenue for the business.
SEO is an ongoing process, and the agency should be continually monitoring and adjusting the campaign to ensure that the website maintains a high search engine ranking and remains competitive in the online marketplace.

Summary
It is not fair nor accurate (so I’ve been informed) to say that one form of marketing is better than another, as they each have their own unique strengths and limitations.
Digital marketing is a comprehensive approach that leverages different channels and platforms to engage with customers and promote products or services.
Whereas, branding involves creating and sharing various types of content, such as blog posts, videos, podcasts, slideshows, infographics, and social media posts for the target audience.
Branding can be highly effective in building brand awareness and reach, especially for businesses with large advertising budgets, and can also offer greater exposure to local communities and generate immediate results, such as increase in sales.
An SEO agency campaign, on the other hand, focuses specifically on improving a website’s ranking and visibility on search engine results pages (SERPs) through targeted optimization strategies; Which should involve:
- optimizing website content,
- fixing technical issues,
- building high-quality backlinks, and
- improving site structure
This should now clarify my referring to backlinks disappearing once you stop paying the monthly SEO fees, though that opinion still stands, as I’m certain that even credible SEO agencies would not leave those backlinks live on sites that they control access to, if/when the need of their services are cancelled.
However, the SEO campaigns that many local businesses have been paying for did NOT entail any optimizing of their website content, or improving their website structure, and definitely did not include fixing technical issues.
Those were services that were not included in MANY of the SEO packages that have been offered to local businesses over the years in the past.
I truly hope this helps to explain what I have stated in my posts and on this website. My statements still stand; I’ve simply clarified what each of these services entail.
