{"id":5984,"date":"2017-12-29T10:09:09","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T15:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eparrs.com\/blog\/blog\/?p=5984"},"modified":"2024-02-29T19:34:48","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T00:34:48","slug":"how-to-setup-the-best-cache-plugin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eparrs.com\/blog\/how-to-setup-the-best-cache-plugin\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Setup the Best Cache Plugin &#8211; Using the Free Version!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After spending most of my morning updating my WordPress cache plugin&#8230; the BEST cache plugin, I might add, as is claimed by Tom Dupuis in his blog post&#8230; I thought I would show you what happened when I used Tom&#8217;s suggestion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preferring to use \u201cfree\u201d plugins whenever and wherever available, after much talk about the best cache plugin discussed on a membership site I&#8217;ve now joined, I went on a search of the internet and discovered the EXACT setup necessary for this plugin to work its magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You CAN sign up for a paid version, but all of my websites are being rated REAL high (according to GTmetrix) with using only the free version.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"204\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eparrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/how-to-setup-the-best-cache-plugin-image01.webp\" alt=\"screen print of GTMetrix rating of my hobby website\" class=\"wp-image-8681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eparrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/how-to-setup-the-best-cache-plugin-image01.webp 600w, https:\/\/www.eparrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/how-to-setup-the-best-cache-plugin-image01-300x102.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;and, this website uses an older FREE WordPress theme where I created a child theme and tweaked the stylesheet to make it my own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you need to know how to install a plugin, feel free to check this video tutorial out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyway &#8230; next page &#8230; we\u2019ll start with how to setup the WP Fastest Cache plugin &#8230; the free version (Tom\u2019s video covers that paid version).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be sure to checkmark ALL options within the plugin Settings tab that are available to the free version, as shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Preload option window (first popup), I\u2019ve been informed that if your website is on shared hosting (which, yes &#8230; we are on shared hosting here at WA) you should set your pages per minute from 4 to 6. You can leave the default setting at 4 or move it up to 6, you&#8217;re choice. When selected, my fonts were totally corrupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first it was thought that the Minify options may be causing this &#8230; but alas, upon choosing ONE option AT A TIME to <strong>uncheck (and then deleting the cache)<\/strong> and refreshing my website view in between each option changed, it was found to be causes by the Combine Css option only &#8230; and only on this one theme.
